Operation Protective Edge ended with a ceasefire deal on Tuesday, but on Friday the number of Israelis killed during the defensive operation rose to 71 as one wounded man died of his wounds.

Natanel Maman hy”d, a 22-year-old IDF soldier who was critically wounded last Friday by shrapnel from a rocket that exploded next to Gan Yavneh in the Ashdod region, died of his wounds on Friday morning at the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.

Maman was wounded while on a weekend home leave, enjoying a short break from the defensive operation in Gaza. He was left fighting for his life while hospitalized at Beilinson hospital before eventually succumbing to his critical wounds.

The young soldier leaves behind his bereaved parents and six siblings.

One of his brothers, Tamir, was with Natanel at the time he was struck by shrapnel, and was himself lightly wounded in the terrorist rocket attack. Tamir was released from the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon just a few hours after being hospitalized.

Natanel’s funeral will take place on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Gan Yavneh cemetery.

The last two casualties of Operation Protective Edge were killed on Tuesday, after being critically wounded by mortar shrapnel in Kibbutz Nirim just an hour before the ceasefire went into effect, as Hamas launched a final barrage of rockets and mortars ending 15 minutes after the 7 p.m. ceasefire began.

Last week on Friday the youngest victim of the operation was recorded, as four-year-old Daniel Tragerman hy”d was killed by mortar shrapnel in Kibbutz Nahal Oz.
