Trump pulls ahead of Clinton in poll

July 1, 2016

A new survey from Rasmussen Reports has found that Donald Trump has taken the lead from Hillary Clinton in the US presidential race.

The poll, conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, questioned 1,000 people both by telephone and online. It has a 3 percent margin of error and 95 percent level of confidence.

Analysts found that 43 percent of likely voters support Trump, while only 39 expressed a preference for Clinton. Another 12 percent are still backing another candidate and five percent are undecided.

Last week’s poll put Clinton at 44 percent and Trump at 39 percent. Rasmussen Reports suggests that both candidates are losing support from their own party bases; 14 percent of Democrats said they would vote for Trump, while 10 percent of Republicans expect to vote for Clinton.

Regarding specific issues, most Americans are not concerned about Brexit and expect Clinton would continue Obama’s “lukewarm” national security policies. Most believe that Trump would offer drastic changes, though many fear that the changes would cause more harm than good.
