Social benefits for terrorists
July 24, 2016The Knesset Legislation Committee decided on Sunday to support the proposed legislation of MK Yaakov Peri (Yesh Atid party), former head of the Shin Bet internal security service, according to which terrorists would not be eligible for disability pensions, which they have received up to this point.
Likewise, the law seeks to prevent terrorists from receiving workers’ compensation from employers, and to lower the amount of old-age pension that terrorists receive.
“It is inconceivable that terrorists and their families are getting money from all of us,” Peri said. “The law is intended to increase deterrence, and is representative of a negation of rights for terrorists […] within the framework of the pension market, from which terrorists have been receiving various benefits from the State.”
Peri expressed hope that the Knesset will adopt the law as soon as possible “to give response to the murderous terror wave that the State has been experiencing since October 2015.”
Details published by the Shin Bet in June indicate that 74% of terrorists in the current terror wave are Israeli citizens with a valid Israeli ID, and according to security reports, the number of Israeli Arabs executing attacks is showing a worrying upward trend.
In the past, the State had already cancelled the eligibility of terrorists for national insurance on grounds that the compensation of terrorists with public money is inconceivable. Peri’s proposed law simply seeks to complete the negation of social benefits to terrorists that are derived from place of work.
