Police Stop PA Prime Minister’s Convoy for Reckless Driving
November 23, 2014The convoy for Palestinian Authority (PA) “Prime Minister” Rami Hamdallah was pulled over for a traffic violation Sunday, in the second such incident on Route 60 by the convoy in a one-year period.
The convoy allegedly drove on the lane divider on Route 60 for a continuous period between Eli and Shiloh – a dangerous move on the already-overcrowded two-lane highway.
Traffic cops of Judea and Samaria arrested the driver of Hamdallah’s vehicle for questioning. Details of the other drivers in the convoy were taken, and they will be called in for questioning later Sunday to the offices of the Judea-Samaria traffic department.
This is not the first time Hamdallah’s convoy has wreaked havoc on Route 60.
In January, Hamdallah’s convoy engaged in direct clashes with IDF forces and police after it was spotted driving recklessly on the road between Ofra and Ramallah (a different section on Route 60).
In that incident, the Arab drivers began attacking a policewoman after the convoy was pulled over for the same offense – driving wildly and on the wrong side of the road.
The PA refused to issue an apology for the incident and the Israel Police denied any wrongdoing in pulling the convoy over.
And over one year ago, in June 2013, Hamdallah’s convoy crossed the white lines yet again – hitting an Israeli family and injuring nine people. Six of the injured, a family from Tekoa, were later treated in Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem for light injuries.
Other PA convoys have wreaked havoc on Israeli roads before. In March, Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir stopped a PA police convoy swerving wildly across the road between Hevron and Jerusalem. The convoy was let go after a brief investigation by IDF soldiers nearby.
