No-Confidence Motion Filed Over Beit El Demolitions
July 29, 2015The Yisrael Beytenu party filed a no-confidence motion against the government on Wednesday, in direct response to the demolition of the Draynoff housing project in Beit El.
The no-confidence motion, entitled “the failed conduct of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense regarding the demolition of houses in Beit El,” suggests that the entire affair demonstrates the inability of Binyamin Netanyahu to lead.
“The saga of the demolition of the Draynoff houses in Beit El, wherein government ministers point figures at one another and accuse the Defense Minister of ‘deception and violating agreements,’ suggests that the government again failed, is unworthy of being in office, cannot remain in control, and that Netanyahu is not worthy of leading the country,” the explanatory note to the bill states.
“This, therefore, is an expression of ‘no confidence’ in the government, which should be replaced immediately.”
The motion follows remarks from Yisrael Beytenu chairman and former Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, who stated Tuesday that the demolitions – which took place despite promises from Netanyahu and others to build in Judea-Samaria – betray voters who elected what ostensibly was a right-wing government.
“This is exactly the reason that we did not join the government,” Liberman asserted, referring to Bennett’s comments about the government not being as right-wing as it was elected to be. “Already during coalition negotiations, Prime Minister Netanyahu did not agree to our demands to commit to building in Judea and Samaria and in Jerusalem.”
“Therefore, I call on Minister Bennett and all of Jewish Home to join me, and Yisrael Beytenu, in the Opposition, so that afterwards we can establish a true nationalist government, that engages in building and not destroying,” he added.
