Netanyahu, Cabinet Pass Slew of Anti-Terror Measures
October 6, 2015Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sought to impose tougher measures against terrorists late Monday night, in a late-night emergency Cabinet meeting held in light of an escalation in terror.
During the meeting, Netanyahu assigned Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) to establish a mechanism which would significantly shorten the legal process to allow the State of Israel to demolish terrorists’ homes.
Security reinforcements throughout Judea and Samaria (Shomron) and Jerusalem will continue as needed, with several hundred more officers slated to be added to patrols. Thousands of police and reservists have already been called up to help secure both areas since the High Holidays began earlier this month.
Israel Police forces are expected to enter Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem over the next several days as well, to crack down on violence and bring calm to the capital.
Netanyahu also ordered the construction of new roads in Judea-Samaria which would bypass the Palestinian Authority (PA) to prevent more roadside attacks on Israeli Jews in the region.
The Prime Minister ordered administrative detention orders to be levied against rioters as well, and demanded stronger action against officials who incite violence – a demand possibly aimed at Arab MKs who have been actively promoting chaos.
In addition, he ordered charges to be brought against Israeli citizens who witnessed the stabbing attacks on Rabbi Nehemia Lavi and Aharon Banita-Bennett and his family on Saturday, and who beat and ridiculed Banita’s wife as she lay wounded in the Old City streets.
“We will not accept a Jewish state where a woman is stabbed and people refuse to assist her, and curse her and kick her,” he fired. “We will bring them to justice.”
Netanyahu concluded by announcing the swift adoption of minimum sentences and fines for minors who throw rocks and firebombs. Charges will be brought against their parents as well.
“Tonight we confirmed strong action against terrorism and measures to be brought on a variety of fronts,” Netanyahu said. “We will continue to do so as long as necessary – and to be clear: we will defeat terrorism as we have done so in the past.”
