Morning Rocket Barrage Targets Southern Israel
August 25, 2014Gaza terrorists have fired tens of rockets at southern Israel Monday morning, as well as at least one long-range rocket at central Israel.
At 6:00 a.m., the first salvo was fired at the Eshkol region. Two rockets exploded near the border between Israel and Gaza without causing any damage or injury.
Fifteen minutes later, two more rockets were fired at Eshkol. One exploded inside a community and the second near the community. No damage or injuries were caused.
At 6:30 sirens sounded in Ashkelon and Nitzan, and in the northern Negev cities and communities of Kiryat Malachi, the Be’er Tuvia region, Re’em and Arugot. One hour later, an siren sounded in Ashkelon again, marking incoming rockets.
Later in the morning, at roughly 8:15, sirens were heard throughout the Gush Dan region in central Israel, including Tel Aviv, Raanana and Herzliya. Initial reports claimed at least one rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome system over Tel Aviv; those claims were later rejected, after the sirens were revealed to have been false alarms
The rocket salvo appears to have been timed to coincide with the morning rush-hour period, when large numbers of Israeli citizens make their way to work.
An IAF air raid in Gaza killed two Palestinian terrorists overnight, taking the number of killed Palestinians in the seven-week conflict to 2,122, according to Hamas medical sources.
A spokeswoman for the IDF said warplanes had carried out 16 raids overnight in total.
The rockets came after a lull in rocket fire overnight, which followed a day of bombardment as some 120 rockets and mortar shells were fired on Israeli civilians over the course of Sunday.
