Judea-Samaria Heads: Netanyahu Gave Us No Answers
October 7, 2015Heads of the Yesha council and various regional councils in Judea and Samaria met for several hours late Tuesday night with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, but according to them their demands for a response to the wave of Arab terror went unanswered.
Following the meeting at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Jerusalem, the regional heads spoke with the media, expressing their disappointment that Netanyahu refused to meet their requests to stop the unprecedented building freeze in eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, which has been ongoing to various degrees since failed peace talks began in late 2013.
Samaria Regional Head Yossi Dagan said, “the public in Israel demands a response, which needs to arrive without connection to, but certainly after, murderous attacks like these.”
Calling for construction in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, he commented, “it isn’t a dirty word to say ‘new towns,’ it isn’t a dirty word to say ‘approval of plans.'”
“Unfortunately, despite the good intentions of the prime minister and certainly his intentions are good, and he cares about the state of Israel and the settlements, we feel that unfortunately we didn’t receive the answers to the demands of the vast majority of the nation of Israel,” concluded Dagan.
Regarding Netanyahu’s refusal to lift the construction freeze, Channel 2 reported on Tuesday night that the prime minister folded to pressure from US President Barack Obama, who threatened that if Israel approved new construction, the US would not veto a looming UN Security Council resolution that would establish “Palestine” and declare “settlements” in Judea-Samaria illegal.
That stance comes despite the fact that the 2012 Levy Report proved Israel’s presence in the Biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria is completely legal according to international law. Despite being commissioned by Netanyahu, the coalition government has yet to adopt the report.
In a statement released by the Yesha Council after the meeting with Netanyahu was written: “we met this evening with the prime minister and the security minister for a long discussion about security and settlement. We received partial answers that aren’t enough.”
The regional heads are to hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the results of last night’s meeting.
Arutz Sheva has learned that the decision has been made to continue the protest tent in front of the Prime Minister’s Residence at least until next Tuesday, which is the end of the shiva period of seven days of intense initial mourning for the Henkin couple who where murdered last Thursday by Hamas terrorists.
