Government ministers MIA at memorial for murdered soldier
August 8, 2016The family of fallen soldier Hadar Goldin were distressed to hear that not a single government minister announced plans to honor their son’s death at a memorial ceremony tomorrow.
Hadar Goldin was killed during Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014. His body is still being held as a bargaining chip by the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza.
In memory of their son, the Goldin family is planning a ceremony at the military cemetery in Kfar Saba tomorrow.
However, the lack of apparent government support over the fate of Hadar perturbs the Goldins.
“We are disappointed that not a single minister of the Israeli government has found the time to honor Hadar and us with their presence at the memorial ceremony for two years since he fell,” wrote the Goldin family in a published statement.
The statement continues with a plea to the public to attend the memorial, “and to prove to Hadar, may his memory be blessed, that he is not forgotten in Rafah. We are convinced that the Israeli public will demonstrate to the Israeli government that it does remember Hadar, and will arrive tomorrow en masse to the Kfar Saba cemetery.”
In the past several weeks, the families of fallen captured soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul have been protesting the government’s apparent apathy toward working for the recovery of their bodies from Gaza.
“We are tired of the empty words and hollow statements of the Israeli government, which claims that it is doing all it can in order to bring back Oron and Hadar for burial in Israel,” Goldin’s parents said,
“We are marking now two years after Operation Protective Edge, and the actions of the government prove that the boys have been forgotten in Rafa and in Sajaya.”
