Beitar Illit: Toddler dies after locked in car for two hours

July 22, 2016

An unconscious 16-month-old child was found after spending two hours in a closed car in Beitar Illit on Friday.

MDA first responders evacuated her to Jerusalem’s Sha’arei Tzedek Hospital, where doctors were forced to declare her dead.

Ezra Gottleib, a volunteer with both United Hatzalah and MDA, said: “There was an unconscious child about a year and a half old who was brought by her family to the MDA station at the entrance to Beitar Illit. With the help of a mobile intensive care unit and other volunteers from United Hatzalah, we used advanced resuscitation and then she was evacuated to Jerusalem’s Sha’arei Tzedek Hospital in critical condition.”

A spokesperson for Beitar Illit stated that the girl was found by her father, who hurried to bring her to MDA. He added that the resuscitation was carried out inside of the station.

An increasing number of babies have recently died from excessive heat after being forgotten in vehicles. Ten days ago, a six-month-old child died after being forgotten in a car in Arad.

An investigation found that the child had been forgotten in her grandmother’s car after the grandmother dropped off the child’s mother at work.

She was already dead when the grandmother returned to the vehicle to pick up the mother at the end of the day.
