Be’er Sheva Man Seriously Injured Running for Shelter
August 21, 2014Terrorists in the Hamas enclave of Gaza on Thursday night set their sights on Be’er Sheva, launching a five rocket salvo that indirectly left a man in his forties with serious injuries.
Two of the five rockets were shot down by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system, and another three fell in open ground causing no damage or injuries.
However, a man who was running for the rocket shelters after the “Color Red” rocket sirens suddenly sounded apparently was hit by a car, leaving him with a serious wound to the head.
The man was injured on Moshe Dayan Street, near the north-west edge of the southern capital of Israel. It is estimated that he may have been riding on a bus, and in following procedure to exit the bus and find shelter he was hit by a car.
Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics rushed to supply medical treatment and transport the man to Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva.
The injury comes just hours after a 33-year-old in the Eshkol Regional Council was seriously wounded by shrapnel while protecting children, covering them from the rocket with his own body.
This is not the first time a serious injury has been caused not by the Hamas rockets, but rather by the run for shelter they demand.
In a July 10 barrage, a 74-year-old man in Kfar Adumim to the east of Jerusalem suffered a serious head injury as he ran to the bomb shelter. He was taken to Hadassah Hospital where he was under anesthesia, and being artificially respirated.
Hof Ashkelon Regional Council chairman Yair Farjoun on Thursday told Arutz Sheva that if the IDF doesn’t “crush” Hamas with decisive action to remove their military capabilities within a month, “the residents will not be able to survive.”
