Like many other Jewish and Israeli organizations and officials, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has criticized the Obama Administration for its open hostility to Israel of late – especially the recent insult to Prime Minister Netanyahu by an unnamed official.

The ZOA took the opportunity to sum up the anti-Israel bias in the White House by briefly but thoroughly comparing its many condemnations of Israel and its paucity of such vis-à-vis the Palestinian Authority.

The ZOA notes that though Obama Administration officials have reportedly expressed “red hot anger” at Netanyahu for his construction policies in Jerusalem, it did not express the same anger, or indeed any condemnation at all of Mahmoud Abbas and the PA for any of the following:

•           Refusing to negotiate with Israel for close to 6 and a half years

•           Delivering three No’s in his meeting with President Obama last March: No acceptance of Israel as a Jewish state; no renunciation of the so-called ‘right of return’ and the demand to allow millions of Arabs to descend upon the State of Israel; and no end to conflict and claims against Israel, even if a peace settlement is signed by both sides

•           Ignoring the Obama Administration’s policy of seeking a negotiated peace by going to the United Nations to obtain non-member status for ‘Palestine‘

•           Calling last week’s Palestinian terrorist murderer of two Israeli civilians, including a baby, a “heroic martyr,“ and welcoming blood-soaked, convicted and jailed Palestinian terrorists freed by Israel with the words, “We welcome our heroic brothers.” At the same time, he consistently praises other terrorists, and even conferred the “Star of Honor” on leading PLO terrorist Abu Jihad, who was responsible for the murder of at least 125 Israelis in numerous terror attacks.

It might be added, in light of the terrorist shooting of Temple Mount activist Yehuda Glick on Wednesday night, that Abbas recently called for Arabs in the PA to “use all means” to prevent Jews from ascending to the Temple Mount – which is precisely what the terrorist who shot Glick did. Asked about these remarks of Abbas and whether the U.S. condemns them, U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki managed to say only this: “As you know, President Abbas has renounced violence and consistently sought a diplomatic and peaceful solution that allows for two states.”

In contrast, the ZOA notes that in recent weeks, the Obama Administration has:

•           Roundly criticized Israel for announcing a construction project of homes for Jews in the eastern part of Jerusalem and publicly doubting its concern for peace

•           Snubbed Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon who was refused meetings with Vice President Joseph Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry and National Security Advisor Susan Rice during his trip to the United States this month – though he met with his counterpart Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.

•           An unnamed Administration official used epithets against Netanyahu that has led at least one Israeli government official to offer his analysis that the use of such language and tactics against an ally means that America’s future as a world power is in limbo.

The ZOA, like the Simon Wiesenthal Center, calls on President Obama to name, condemn and fire the Administration official who was quoted as having insulted Netanyahu, for publication.

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, “It is clear that the pro-terror, anti-peace words and actions of Mahmoud Abbas and the PA do not attract the ire and condemnation of President Obama and his Administration…“In his speech to AIPAC on May 22, 2011, President Obama said that ‘we will hold the Palestinians accountable for their actions and for their rhetoric.’ But he never has.”
