Twin Terror Cells Busted in Judea-Samaria

The Israel Security Agency (ISA or Shin Bet) and IDF have uncovered two terrorist cells, whose members carried out, recently, a number of shootings at Israeli vehicles and at an IDF post, it was cleared for publication Thursday afternoon.

The ISA also found a cache of five rifles, a pistol and ammunition during the investigation.

One of the cells, whose members are active in the “Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine” (PFLP) from Beit Rima district of Binyamin, shot at vehicles traveling along roads in the area and at an IDF post in Nabi Saleh; there were no casualties during both attacks.

In addition, the group was involved in extensive and ongoing terrorism, including Molotov cocktails and pipe bombs at IDF forces.

Additional plans for future attacks included a combined attack involving shooting and detonating pipe bombs at an IDF base, a stabbing attack against IDF soldiers and kidnap a soldier.

The second cell, whose members are active in the village of Bani Na’im near Hevron, carried out in November 2014 several shootings at Israeli vehicles on Route 60, near Kiryat Arba.

Members of the cell – named as Shadi Fahmi Bader Jaber, 21, and a 16 year old minor – admitted during interrogation by the ISA to carrying out the attacks; one was confirmed to have hit the car of an Israeli from Judea-Samaria. A separate cache was found in one of their homes.

They also arrested along with Badaran Bader Nasser Jaber, a PFLP member, 22, from Hevron, who admitted that he supplied some of the ammunition for the attacks.

Evidence on both cells will be transferred to the IDF military courts in upcoming days, and all participants will be requested to be taken into IDF custody until trials begin.

The ISA stated that the findings “illustrate the dangers local [IDF] units face, and the motivation that exists among terrorists to realize serious attacks.”

“The Shin Bet and the IDF will continue to work to prevent attacks and terrorist activities against commuters and IDF forces in the region,” it added.
