Tens of thousands take part in Jerusalem flag march

Arutz Sheva was on hand as the traditional rikudegalim flag march began on Sunday for Jerusalem Day, starting at the dance stage in the center of the ancient capital with marchers continuing on to the Old City and the Western Wall (Kotel), adjacent to the Temple Mount.

The flag march, which is part of celebrations marking 49 years since the liberation of the 1967 Six Day War, will go through the Old City’s so-called Muslim Quarter and reach the Western Wall by 7:30 p.m., with police determining that no marchers will be in the Muslim Quarter after that time.

Tens of thousands of Jews turned out for the march, and 1,200 police officers were sent to secure the event.

Several major streets were closed to car traffic in the city due to the march, including Betzalel, King George, Keren Hayesod, King Shlomo, King David, and several others.

The roads are to be reopened in accordance with the progress of the march. Public transportation will run on alternate routes.
