In a statement made Wednesday by Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office, Israel will begin sponsoring university students to fight Israel’s corner on social media platforms, reported BBC News.
Israeli University students would receive full or partial scholarships for combating anti-Semitism and boycotts to Israel on networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
“This is a groundbreaking project aimed at strengthening Israeli national diplomacy and adapting it to changes in information consumption,” the statement from the PM’s office said.
The students will have the liberty to decide whether or not to identify themselves as part of the program, which would begin within the following months.
The Prime Minister’s office was looking to budget $778,000 for the project, and that The National Israeli Student Association would select participants from a pool of applicants who will join the hasbara, term used in Israel for public diplomacy.
The IDF has also set up an “Interactive Media” of their own, recruiting a select amount of soldiers to spread the army’s message on its social media sites.
