Russia nabs group planning ‘Paris-style’ attacks

Russia’s security chief on Thursday said his agency has tracked down a group working to prepare “Paris-style” attacks in big Russian cities, The Associated Press reported.

Alexander Bortnikov, the head of the Federal Security Service, the top KGB successor agency, said the agency cracked the group In February in co-operation with Kazakhstan’s security service.

He added that the group’s members were planning to go to Syria to join the Islamic State (ISIS) group after conducting the terror attacks “under the Paris scenario.”

Bortnikov did not say how many suspects have been arrested or give any further details.

The November 13 attacks in Paris, which were claimed by ISIS, left 130 people dead and hundreds wounded.

ISIS recently carried out a similar terrorist attack in Brussels. The attack targeted the city’s airport and a metro station. 32 people were killed and 270 wounded.
