Report: Investigation against Minister Aryeh Deri to be dropped

Senior law enforcement officials estimate that the investigation against Interior Minister Aryeh Deri will be dropped soon, according to Channel 10 news.

According to the report, there isn’t yet an official recommendation to drop the investigation, and Deri may even be summoned for questioning, but there is still no solid evidence of criminal activity on his part.

Reports about the case have indicated that it is concerned with real estate deals and other business dealings of Deri’s during the time when he was not serving as a government minister.

Lately, reports have surfaced claiming that the fact that the affair was publicized and revealed to the public interfered with the investigation, by making it less likely that solid evidence and witnesses willing to testify against the Interior Minister would be found.

The investigation has garnered a lot of media and public attention partly due to the fact that Deri was convicted of taking bribes in 1999, serving a prison sentence from 2000-2002.
