The four Jews murdered at a kosher supermarket in Paris two weeks ago – Philippe Braham, Yohan Cohen, Yoav Hattab, and Francois-Michel Saada hy”d – were laid to rest in Jerusalem last Tuesday, with thousands of Jews turning out to show their support.
Arutz Sheva was on the scene as participants in the massive funeral spoke of the sorrow following the brutal Islamist terror attack, in which the four were murdered simply for being Jews, but also of the feeling of unity sweeping the Jewish nation.
One participant noted the funeral was very emotional, saying “I feel a kesher (connection) with everybody,” with many participants adding that these moments of tragedy provide a chance for the Jewish people to come together and both “move forward” and “lift each other up.”
“Times like these are times when Jews have to be united, and even when you aren’t really affiliated with them (other Jews – ed.) you don’t really know them, it’s important to connect with them,” said another mourner.
Speaking of the unity among the Jewish people following the tragedy, one participant said “we’ve got to take care of each other, and we have to take advantage of every moment we have with each other,” while another noted the attack is something “we have to put in our past but learn for our future.”
“Togetherness doesn’t necessarily have to go through tragedies, but rather it should go through peace and happiness,” another commented, calling for the feeling of unity to remain.
The funeral was attended by numerous Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin.
