A Hamas terror cell has been uncovered in northern Jerusalem, it was released for publication Monday. The Israel Security Agency (Shabak, or Shin Bet), Jerusalem police and Border Police uncovered the cell in a joint sting operation.
The security agencies filed their charges Monday against the three-member cell. They were indicted in the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on charges of weapons production, incitement, arson, attempted assault of a police officer, and aggravated assault.
The terrorists were charged in connection with a number of firebomb (Molotov cocktail) and rock attacks aimed at Israeli civilians and security personnel. The list included an attack on a lone Border Police officer on September 14 at a checkpoint position.
They have been operating in the Jerusalem Arab neighborhoods of Shuafat and Ras Hamis, according to the court documents. Shuafat was an Arab village under Jordanian occupation prior to the 1967 Six Day War.
