‘Nationalistic rape’ victim’s brother knew her attackers

Three Arabs suspected of raping a 20 year-old developmentally disabled Jewish woman for “nationalistic” reasons were known to the brother of the victim, he revealed to Channel 2 Tuesday.

“I knew them before… I can’t digest it could be them,” he stated. “These are people who sit with me almost every day.”

The brother of the victim would not relate to reports that the attack was for “nationalistic reasons” – a hot-button issue as the Israel Police have flip-flopped repeatedly on their view of the crime.

“I have to deal with rehabilitating the girl, do you understand?” he said. “I spoke with the media, but not because I wanted to – only because there were things said that I had to respond to.”

“The girl was raped here in the apartment across from us, while I went out with the dogs for a walk,” he recounted. He apparently knew the three were in the apartment with her. “It couldn’t have been more then ten minutes, but I wasn’t afraid – I relied on these people, I had no idea something like this could happen.”

He further explained that he only found out about the incident through his spouse, after his sister told her about what had happened.

“Once the girl said that’s what happened and decided she wanted to submit a complaint, all I have to do is support it and go with it,” he added. “I had two options: either the ‘law of the streets,’ so to speak – or to go to the police, and that’s what I did.”

“I do not want to interfere with the police to do its job and do not want to hurt my sister.”

All the family wants now is quiet, he said.

“Basically we want peace, our quiet corner, that’s all,” he concluded. “When the investigation is over we’ll talk about it.”

“I do not want to relate to what they say and do not want to interfere with the police investigation.”
