MK Rav Menachem Moses of United Torah Judaism voiced opposition Sunday to attempts to tear down the Ulpena Neighborhood of Beit El.
MK Moses, who is also Deputy Education Minister, was given a VIP tour of Beit El by his colleague, MK Yaakov Katz (Ketzaleh), Chairman of the National Union.
In the course of the tour, MK Moses said that he “had thought there were just a few decrepit caravans and I see a developed neighborhood that is just as developed as any neighborhood in northern Tel Aviv.”
The threat of demolition hangs over the communities of Migron, Givat Assaf and the Ulpana neighborhood in Beit El after a Supreme Court ruling. The communities were built with state cooperation, but the lands on which they stand are disputed. Legal experts have said that a reasonable solution would be compensation to any claimants who could prover ownership, since the homes have been standing for many years without being contested.
