MK Ayelet Shaked Accuses Likud of Reneging on Coalition Promises

Likud is not keeping its promises to approach Jewish Home first as a coalition partner, MK Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) accused Wednesday morning.

“Right now, the Likud is not keeping his word, his word to the electorate and all of Israel was that Jewish Home ‘will be the first partner’ to which it would turn for coalition negotiations,” Shaked fired in comments to Army Radio. “I am explaining that this is not happening.”

“I think that, ultimately, it is Likud’s responsibility to make that happen,” she added.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett very soon after exit polls were published last Tuesday night, and the two met for the first time since elections just two days ago for preliminary coalition negotiations.

Sources say that Bennett is asking for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Defense, and will also ask to retain his post as Religious Affairs Minister.

Despite the constant promises from Likud, Jewish Home is still skeptical that Netanyahu could approach Labor-Hatnua to form a unity government.

Shaked has been one of the most vocal MKs over the issue, and she has stated numerous times over the past several days that the right wing is skeptical over Netanyahu keeping his word.

Sources from within the Likud have also stated to different news agencies that Netanyahu has not yet ruled out a unity government, especially if Jewish Home and other parties prove too difficult in coalition negotiations.
