The Shabak, along with the IDF, discovered and halted a major terrorist conspiracy that was being formed in the Binyamin region. The conspiracy was being organized from Gaza, via the Internet. Several members of the conspiracy, including two leaders, were arrested, preventing the group from carrying out its plans.
According to the Shabak, the group was preparing to carry out several types of attacks, including setting bombs, kidnapping soldiers or residents, and the manufacturing of rockets and missiles.
Among those detained in the case was 26 year old Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad Abu Fahida, a resident of the village of Ras Karkar in the Binyamin region. Fahida is a Hamas activist, arrested and jailed in the past for participating in Hamas terror activities. Also arrested was 27 year old Ahmad Yassin Abd alFatah Shabroui, a resident of the village of Silwad. He, too, is a Hamas terror activist, and has been jailed in the past for his activities on behalf of the organization.
According to the Shabak, both were recruited in the past months to Hamas, and were prompted to plan terror attacks. They were guided by a senior Hamas terrorist in Gaza via the Internet, and used disposable cellphones to cover their tracks. They recruited several workers to help them plan attacks, while the senior Hamas agent guided them in how to prepare bombs and rockets, and how to mark potential kidnap victims.
The Shabak added that the two had been in touch with their Gaza handler just days before the arrest, informing him that they were prepared to carry out their first attack, which was to take place within the week.
The two were indicted in March, the Shabak said. They are currently in jail, where they will remain untol the end of proceedings against them.
