Nationalists gathered at Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square Sunday evening for a show of strength, with elections just 36 hours away.
Musicians Amir Benayun and Udi Davidi were schduled to perform at the rally, but Elections Committee Chairman, Judge Salim Jubran, ruled Sunday that artists may not take part in the event.
The judge explained that the law forbids unfair influence on voters, and that performances by artists can be seen as a benefit that is granted in return for voting a certain way.
The organizers explained that the artists would be appearing at the end of the rally, and that the rally had two separate components, political and artistic. Judge Jubran did not accept this separation.
