Knesset Speaker: UNHCR is Rotten

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin met José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission, and told him that the United Nations Human Rights Commission is “a rotten organization, both morally and politically.”

He called on Barroso to side with Israel and withdraw from the UNHCR, following the appointment of its new committee for looking into “the settlements and their ramifications for violation of Palestinian human rights.”

“This is an organization with members who are mass killers who wave the flags of human rights with one hand, while their other hand is drenched with the blood of innocents,” explained Rivlin.

“This absurd commission, which was head by Qaddafi and which Syria now wants to be accepted into as a member, causes the moral discourse on human rights to deteriorate and symbolizes the moral nadir at which international discourse finds itself. Today, Israel calls on the U.S. and the EU to follow its example and leave the UNHCR. Whoever puts up with the acceptance of Syria into the commission is an accomplice in the moral and political rot.”

Barroso expressed his “sorrow” at the continued enlargement of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, and told Rivlin that the settlements impede access to Arab villages, and do not advance the “peace process.”
