The cartoonist, who came in at second place in the Iranian-backed International Holocaust Cartoon competition, is now using his artistic abilities to benefit ‘Occupy AIPAC,’ the organization that seeks to de-legitimize Israel and its supporters, in an effort to counter this week’s annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) policy conference, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
The artist, Carlos Latuff, equates Israeli leaders with Nazis, likens the ‘Palestinians’ to Jewish victims during the Holocaust and accuses the Israel Defense Forces of committing war crimes.
He “is one of the more prolific anti-Semitic cartoonists on the web, with a staggering amount of work dedicated to advancing explicitly anti-Semitic political imagery,” said Adam Levick, managing editor of CiF Watch, a blog that combats anti-Semitism.
In his article entitled, “Anti-Semitic Cartoons on Progressive Blogs,“ Levick states that Latuff “advances the narrative that Israel is a unique and immutable evil in the world. His work includes imagery clearly indicating moral equivalence between Israel and Nazi Germany, which he has explicitly acknowledged to be his view.”
Abe Greenwald of Commentary Magazine explains the anti-Semitic undertones that have been prevalent in the “Occupy” movement since its inception in September 2011. Greenwald states, “[A] quick sampling of the anti-Semitism on display among the Occupy Wall Street set yields the flamboyant and aggressive protester who yells, ‘You’re a bum, Jew’ at his yarmulke wearing interlocutor; the conspiracy theorist who laments that ‘Jewish money controls American politics’ and warns the Russians not to let the Jews take over Russia, too; and the self-described Nazi with the swastika tattoo who regrets that America has been handed over to ‘other people.’”
The “Occupy” movement has been tainted by anti-Semitic undertones since its inception in September of 2011, and anti-Israel activists recently have tried to utilize the brand name against Jews and Israel.
