Former British PM Margaret Thatcher, Dead at 87

Former British PM Margaret Thatcher, the first woman to head the UK government, has died at the age of 87.

Thatcher led the Conservative Party served from 1979 to 1990.

She was famous for declaring in December 1984, “I like Mr. Gorbachev. We can do business together,” three months before he became the leader of the Soviet Union.

She was called the “Iron Lady,” but eventually was brought down by a stroke in 2002, followed by several others.

In her final months of life she made few final appearances and missed a 2010 reception to mark her 85th birthday hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron.

The next year she also skipped a July unveiling of a statue in London honoring her old friend, U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

Last December, she was admitted to hospital to remove a growth in her bladder.
