Erdogan vows to fight ‘pawns’ carrying out attacks

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday night that his country’s fight against “pawns” carrying out attacks and the forces behind them will grow more determined, Reuters reported.

The statement came after a car bomb in Ankara killed at least ten people and wounded another ten. The attack hit an area near the country’s parliament, as well as a number of military buildings.

The Turkish military condemned the bombing as a terrorist attack on the buses as they waited at traffic lights.

“We will continue our fight against the pawns that carry out such attacks, which know no moral or humanitarian bounds, and the forces behind them with more determination every day,” Erdogan said, according to Reuters.

Earlier on Wednesday, hours before the car attack, Erdogan  vowed that Turkey would not allow the creation of a Kurdish stronghold in northern Syria, saying there was no question of Turkish forces stopping their bombardment of Syrian Kurdish fighters.

“We will not allow a new Qandil on our southern border” with Syria, Erdogan said in a televised speech in Ankara, referring to the mountain in northern Iraq which for years has been stronghold of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants.

“They (the West) tell use to stop shelling” the Kurdish fighters in Syria, Erdogan said after Turkey hit their positions for four days in a row. “Forgive me, but there is no question of us doing such a thing.”

The comments echoed statements made three days earlier by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu when speaking with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
