Award to Paramedic Who Improvised and Saved Lives

IDF paramedic Cpl. Anastasia Begdlov, currently a cadet in officers’ course, received a military citation on Sunday from Head of the IAF Manpower Department, Brig. Gen. Ilan Boger, at the Uvda Airbase.

Begdlov received the decoration for her bravery during the August 18, 2011 terror attacks, in which terrorists fired at civilian cars and a bus on Route 12 along the Israel-Egypt border.

Cadet Begdlov, who was on the bus, provided initial medical care to the injured passengers with great determination, using improvised equipment. She saved the life of a severely injured passenger by applying an arterial tourniquet to his knee using her bra, and applying indirect pressure to his other knee.

She accompanied the wounded to the hospital and it was only there that she noticed that she herself was injured in her arms and legs from fragments that resulted from the terrorist gunfire.

Cadet Begdlov acted with “perseverance, responsibility, personal example, professionalism and camaraderie,” according to the citation.

IAF Commander, Maj. Gen. Ido Nechushtan attended the event as well.
