Following a reported act of arson against a mosque, Arabs are rioting at the entrance to Al-Mughayir, a village near Ramallah, and preventing police from entering the village.
Arab sources blame “settlers” for setting the mosque on fire.
According to AFP, Palestinian security officials said that “Israeli settlers started a blaze in a mosque… overnight, setting the first floor on fire.”
“The settlers set fire to the whole of the first floor of the mosque” in the village of Al-Mughayir, near Shilo, the officials said. They said that another mosque in the village was set ablaze in 2012.
The fire reportedly broke out at around 2:30 a.m. Arab media said extensive damage was caused to furniture on the first floor, which includes a library of Islamic holy books.
The Judea and Samaria Police said that a report about the arson at Mughayir was received in the morning hours but police forces in charge of nationalistic crime and forensic squads, as well as IDF forces, have not been able to enter the village because of riots.
It comes after a firebomb was thrown in the night at the ancient synagogue of Shefar’am, in the Galilee. It ignited, causing some damage, but no one was hurt.
