The Haifa District Court on Wednesday sentenced the Arab Israeli terrorist Alla Raeed Ahmed Zayud to 25 years in jail for launching a combo car ramming and stabbing attack at Gan Shmuel east of Hadera last October 11.
The 20-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahm ran over two soldiers at a Gan Shmuel bus stop – including a female soldier who was seriously wounded – before getting out of his car and stabbing two others. He was overpowered by a civilian who managed to bring him down after being stabbed several times.
The terrorist was convicted on four counts of attempted murder.
Aside from the 19-year-old female soldier who was seriously wounded, the terrorist stabbed a 14-year-old girl and moderately wounded her, and likewise lightly wounded two men aged 45 and 20.
In the attack, Zayud ran over a male and female soldier waiting at the bus stop, then got out and stabbed the girl before stabbing the female soldier as she lay wounded on the ground. The fourth victim ran to the bus stop and fought with the terrorist, subduing him and preventing more casualties while suffering several light stab wounds.
The day after the attack Zayud was brought to court where he attempted to claim the attack was a traffic accident and that he didn’t mean to harm the soldiers – an explanation that didn’t even attempt to cover the stabbings.
During the trial it was shown that the terrorist planned the attack in advance and left his home with the goal of attacking Jews.
Just this Sunday Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas) filed a request at the Haifa District Court, asking to revoke Zayud’s citizenship.
Zayud is an Israeli citizen born to an Arab Israeli citizen mother and a non-citizen Palestinian Arab father with permanent residency status; he had received this status as part of “family reunification” between Arabs citizens and their non-citizen spouses.
Then-Interior Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) made the request to strip Zayud of citizenship soon after the attack, but various governmental changes apparently stalled the decision.
Deri recently announced he would not renew the father’s residency, stating that he would be holding families of terrorists responsible for their actions.
