Arab Indicted for Attempted Jerusalem Terror Attack

The Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office on Sunday filed an indictment against Rafat Ga’afara, an Arab from the Jabel Mukhaber neighborhood of Jerusalem. The indictment charges Ga’afara of planning a terror attack against Jews, and taking dangerous actions that endangered Jerusalem residents.

According to the indictment, Ga’afara met with another terror suspect, Muhammad Badar. The two discussed the possibility of carrying out a terror attack against Jewish residents of the Abu Tor neighborhood.

Badar told Ga’afara that he had a bomb that he planned to use, and asked the latter to help him plan an attack. Ga’afara was supposed to observe the area before Badar planted the bomb, and let him know if there was any danger of getting caught. Ga’afara agreed to do so, and at one point the two, carrying the bomb, made their way to the Jewish area of Abu Tor.

Badar lit the bomb’s fuse and placed it outside a house, as Ga’afara continued to act as lookout. The two then ran away, and the bomb exploded, damaging the house’s door. Fortunately, no one was hurt, although there was damage to the interior of the house at well. Police caught Ga’afara in recent days after an investigation.

Prosecutors planned to ask for an extension of Ga’afara’s remand.
