Actor David Arquette Celebrates Bar Mitzvah in Israel
American actor David Arquette celebrated his Bar Mitzvah – albeit slightly late – at the Western Wall this week, and launched a segment that will provide a window to the Holy Land for the rest of the world.
The 41-year-old actor is currently in Israel as a guest of the Tourism Ministry and the Ministry of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs.
Arquette is in Israel to film a segment in the popular Travel Channel series he presents entitled “Mile High.” The show, which will be broadcast to millions of viewers on cable and satellite channels in the United States, will showcase Israel’s tourism offerings.
Monday he spent the day in Jerusalem, where he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah at the Kotel (Western Wall). The site is Judaism’s holiest place – the last remnant of the ancient Holy Temple.
Arquette was instructed in the proper placement of the phylacteries – the tefillin – on his head and left arm, and in reciting the blessing for his “aliyah” to the Torah by the rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.
On Tuesday Arquette is scheduled to travel to the Dead Sea and the Judean Desert to continue filming for the series “Mile High.”
Arquette (“Scream,” “Never Been Kissed,” and “Dream with the Fishes”) visited Tel Aviv on Sunday to begin filming for the show.
