‘We are tired of empty words and hollow promises’

The family of Hadar Goldin, whose body is still in the hands of Hamas after he was killed in action during operation Protective Edge, released an official statement ahead of the memorial commemorating two years since the operation in which it harshly criticizes the government policy regarding efforts to facilitate the return of the bodies of Hadar and fellow IDF soldier Oron Shaul.

“We’re tired of the empty words and hollow promises made by the government of Israel claiming that it’s doing everything possible to bring back Oron and Hadar to be given a Jewish burial,” the family said in the statement.

“We’re now marking two years since Protective Edge and the government’s actions prove that the boys were left behind in Rafah and Shujai’yya [in Gaza].

“In the past weeks we have found out that the government is not doing everything it can to bring the children back,” the Goldin family continued.

“There are various area of international pressure that the government of Israel is choosing not to bring to bear to bring about the return of Oron and Hadar.

“We expect that as we near the two year mark since the end of operation Protective Edge, Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, and the entire government of Israel will take responsibility for Oron and Hadar’s fate and bring them back,” the statement concluded.

The Goldin and Shaul families have publicly denounced the government’s decision to sign a rapprochement deal with Turkey which didn’t provide for the return of the bodies.
