Trump: I’d consider Kasich as my Vice President

May 4, 2016

Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would consider vetting John Kasich for the vice presidential nomination.

The comments to CNN came as the Ohio Governor announced the end of his bid to win the Republican nomination, a move which came on the heels of Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s departure from the race, following Trump’s massive win in Tuesday’s Indiana primary.

“Together, we fought the good fight and did it the right way. Your devotion to our campaign based on our shared belief in solving our nation’s challenges by uniting people and lifting them up will forever remain in the hearts of my family and me. While our campaign is ending, our work is not over. We need to continue strengthening our families and our communities because that is how we strengthen our country,” Kasich said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.

When asked about Kasich’s decision to drop out of the race, Trump told CNN, “I would be interested in vetting John.”

“I like John. I’ve had a good relationship with John. Whether he is vice president or not, he will be very helpful with Ohio,” he continued, saying Kasich was “doing the right thing” by deciding to drop out.

Cruz announced in a speech on Tuesday night, shortly after he lost Indiana, that he would be dropping out of the race.

“From the beginning, I said I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory,” he said.

“Tonight, I’m sorry to say, it appears that path has been foreclosed. Together we left it all on the field in Indiana. We gave it everything we got. But the voters chose another path. And so, with a heavy heart, but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign,” added Cruz.
