Terrorist shot during attempted stabbing at Qalandiya

July 26, 2016

A female Arab terrorist attempted to stab Israeli soldiers manning Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem Tuesday morning.

Alert troops shot and wounded the terrorist before she was able to carry out her attack, however; she was transferred to Shaarei Tzedek hospital in moderate condition.

“At the Qalandiya checkpoint a young Arab woman … started to run toward the guards, who several times ordered her to stop,” a police statement said.

“When she did not comply and drew close to them they fired at her legs and neutralised her,” it said.

She was found to have been carrying a knife in her bag, it added.

The statement said the woman was a resident of the nearby village of Akab.

Police said that clashes erupted at the scene but security forces restored order. No injuries were reported.

Earlier Tuesday there were clashes at neighboring Qalandiya village, after Israel destroyed 11 illegally-built structures there.

Qalandiya has been a regular target for Arab knife attackers during the recent wave of terrorism.

Though the wave of terror has ebbed significantly since its heights several months ago, sporadic attacks have continued, at the urging of various terrorist groups.
