Summer makes a surprise visit in full force

February 13, 2016

Saturday provided a welcome relief from the winter with its moderate temperatures and warm sun, but the weather is to take it up a notch this week and go full summer – although Israel is not out of the woods of winter weather just yet.

The warmth on Shabbat coaxed no fewer than 120,000 Israelis to visit nature reserves, reports Yedioth Aharonoth, although the real heat won’t make landfall until Tuesday and stay until Friday.

Temperatures are expected to rise on Tuesday by two to three degrees Celsius (roughly four to six degrees Fahrenheit).

Then on Wednesday the rising dry heat will reach a peak, with the coastal region hitting upwards of 30° C (86° F) and the mountainous regions reaching 27° C (81° F).

Temperatures Wednesday are to reach a full ten degrees Celsius (roughly 20 degrees Fahrenheit) above seasonal averages.

Looking closer ahead this week, the max temperatures on Sunday are predicted to be 24° C (75° F) in Kiryat Shmona, 17° C (63° F) in Tzfat (Safed), 23° C (73° F) in Haifa, 21° C (70° F) in Tel Aviv, 20° C (68° F) in Jerusalem, 22°C (72° F) in Be’er Sheva, and 28° C (82° F) in Eilat.
