State told to arrest Islamic Movement protesters
November 29, 2015Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir on Saturday night contacted Deputy State Attorney Amit Eisman, asking that he put on trial all those who displayed open support for the illegal Islamic Movement in Israel during a massive protest on Saturday.
No less than 20,000 Arab citizens of Israel, including top leaders and MKs, marched in the northern city of Umm al-Fahm to protest the outlawing of the radical movement, which is funded by Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood and has actively incited violence.
“I turn to you following the protest that took place in Umm al-Fahm,” wrote Ben-Gvir, a leading activist in the Otzma Yehudit party.
“I have great doubt that the protest received a permit from the police, but in any case, during the protest many dozens of people including (Movement head) Raed Salah and other activists were seen wearing shirts with Arabic writing on them supporting the Islamic Movement,” he wrote.
The attorney noted the shirts read “the Islamic Movement = Al-Aqsa,” and “Al-Aqsa is in danger,” in reference to the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount which the movement has used as a rallying point to incite terrorism against Israelis.
“As is known to you support of the Islamic Movement is a breach of the law,” he wrote, adding, “see the order to prevent terror – clause 7. In the past and also in the present you have put on trial people who waved Kach flags, to distinguish a thousand times over! Or people who identified with the Kach organization openly or allegedly.”
The Kach movement was founded by former MK Rabbi Meir Kahane and called to transfer the Arab residents out of Israel to the Arab lands. It was outlawed in 1988 on ambiguous claims of “racism,” by a law that did not define what constitutes “racism.”
“Therefore I turn to you and ask to order the launching of an investigation and arrests against those who waved symbols and/or identified with a terrorist organization,” concluded the attorney.
Saturday’s massive outpouring provided clear illustration to a poll published two weeks ago right after the decision to outlaw the radical movement, in which 57% of the Arab citizens in Israel said the Islamic Movement faithfully represents them.
