‘Some flew from the bus, some were crushed to death’

February 14, 2016

ZAKA emergency services spokesperson Moti Bokchin was among the first to arrive at the scene of the lethal crash Sunday evening, in which six bus passengers were killed and 11 others wounded when the vehicle collided into a truck at Anava Intersection west of Modi’in.

Speaking to Arutz Sheva, Bokchin said, “the place looked like a battlefield, some of them (the victims) flew from the bus, some of them were crushed to death.”

Medics had noted that a number of the victims were trapped in the bus, apparently as it crushed on impact with the truck that was standing on the side of the road jutting into the lane.

The driver, a 40-year-old Arab from eastern Jerusalem, has been taken in for questioning, as has the Egged bus driver.

Bokchin described the “powerful and serious blow inside the bus. When I arrived here there was a deathly silence. Initial shock.”

“It was a quiet that we know from terror attacks,” he added, calling the crash “one of the most serious incidents that will be engraved on my memory.”

At least three of the dead in the attack were said to be children. One of the wounded is in serious condition, three others are moderately wounded, and the rest are in lightly injured.

The Egged bus was identified as being of the 402 line heading from Jerusalem to Bnei Brak, and it left the capital at 5:40 p.m.
