Shomron Council head: Stop plans to give land to Palestinians

November 29, 2015

Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan on Saturday night appealed to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, demanding an immediate end to any plans to transfer Israeli-controlled territory of Judea and Samaria to the Palestinian Authority (PA).

In recent days there were reports that the Civil Administration was looking into the possibility of transferring some 10,000 dunams of land from Area C, which is under complete Israeli control in accordance with the Oslo Accords, to the PA, despite the fact that the process had not been discussed by the political echelon and did not receive government approval.

“We demand an immediate halt to any plans of transferring areas of our homeland, especially when such measures had not been approved by the government as is customary in a democracy,” said Dagan. “These things are done in the dark, like thieves in the night, with prepared maps and all without the government’s approval.”

Dagan was joined on Saturday night by Welfare Minister Haim Katz and Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis, both of the Likud, who said they would raise the issue at Sunday’s weekly Cabinet meeting.

Katz added, “I am completely against the plan that was published. There is no logic in giving additional civilian control to the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria, especially when they are one of the causes of terrorism. I will demand at the Cabinet meeting to dismiss the team [looking into the idea] and shelve the maps if they exist. “

Akunis, for his part, said, “After the delusional idea to provide weapons to the Palestinians, we hear that the Coordinator of Government Activities in Judea and Samaria is initiating the transfer of ten thousand dunams to the Palestinian Authority. That must not happen!”
