Shalom to Revoke Citizenship of Israeli Arab Terrorists

October 9, 2015

Interior Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) announced on Friday that he would work to revoke the Israeli citizenship or residency status of those who committed terrorist attacks or were involved in acts of terrorism against Israelis.

The announcement came following the involvement of Israeli Arabs in several of the terrorist attacks in Israel this week, including Friday’s stabbing attack in Afula, carried out by a female Israeli Arab from Nazareth.

“We must spew out these blood-thirsty killers from our midst,” Shalom said an official statement. “This way we will deprive them of the benefits given to them by virtue of their status as residents of Israel.”

“These terrorists, who flagrantly violated the trust of Israel by the attempted murder of innocents, do not deserve to live among us,” he added.

The announcement comes amid a wave of terrorism in recent weeks, which has seen repeated stabbing and rock throwing attacks.

On Thursday, less than 24 hours before Friday’s stabbing, an Arab stabbed an IDF soldier in the streets of Afula, leaving him with moderate to serious wounds.

Also on Friday, an Arab terrorist stabbed and lightly wounded a 16-year-old Jewish teenager north of the Old City in Jerusalem.

Security forces managed to arrest the terrorist shortly after the stabbing occurred, following a brief manhunt.

The Cabinet has taken some steps to eradicate the ongoing terrorism, including passing new measures that would impose harsher punishments on rock throwers.
