Rocks Pelted at Michal Herzog, Labor Head’s Wife

April 20, 2015

Rocks were thrown Monday evening at the vehicle of Michal Herzog, wife of Zionist Union chairman and Opposition leader, MK Yitzhak Herzog.

According to reports, the attack occurred as Herzog was leaving the couple’s home in north Tel Aviv. While Herzog was not hurt, the rear window of her car was damaged.

Herzog immediately filed a complaint with the Tel Aviv District Police, who have begun investigating the incident. The Israel Security Agency (ISA or Shin Bet) has also been asked to join the investigation.

Investigators from the Yarkon unit arrived to outside the Herzog home, and discovered two rocks believed to have been lobbed at the vehicle. The rocks were collected and DNA samples and fingerprints were taken in an attempt to locate the perpetrator.

As of now, all options remain open; no motive has been attributed to the incident. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the person who threw the rocks was not intentionally targeting Herzog, but the event is being taken very seriously.

MK Mickey Levy (Yesh Atid) responded to the attack, possibly targeted against a fellow parliamentarian, saying that the Israel Police should use all available means to capture the person who threw the stone.

“All acts of violence, particularly those against politicians and their families, deserve every condemnation from across the political spectrum. Those who commit these acts should receive the maximum punishment as prescribed in the Penal Code,” he stressed.

“On this occasion, I stand with Michal Herzog,” Levy added.

While refusing to answer reporters’ question as they returned home, the Zionist Union chairman addressed the incident on his Facebook page later on Monday.

“In light of media reports on the case, in which Michal’s car windshield was shattered by rocks when she left the house, I must emphasize that everything is fine and we’re continuing with our daily routine,” Herzog wrote.

“Police are investigating the incident and we are sure they will conclude their investigation as soon as possible. A big thank you to all who asked and worried [about Michal] and have a good night.”
