Police Searching for Two Special Needs Girls

December 22, 2014

Police and volunteers are conducting a massive search for two young girls who have been missing since Sunday night, Amalia Melamed and Miki Zaks.

Melamed is the daughter of journalist Ariana Melamed who wrote on her Facebook page “my daughter Amalia Melamed went missing since 10:30 p.m. and the police are searching for her and her friend.”

Amalia is 13 years old, 1.62 meters (5’3”) tall with shoulder-length auburn hair, brown eyes and a medium-thin build. She was last seen at the Holiday Inn in Ashkelon. On Monday morning she was spotted at Tel Aviv Central Station.

Zaks is 16 years old, and was last seen at the Holiday Inn in Ashkelon last night. She has a thin build, is 1.48 meters (4’8”) tall with long straight hair. She was last wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

Ariana Melamed noted that her adopted daughter has fetal alcohol syndrome which harms her judgement.

“She’s impulsive, not responsible for her actions and suffers from behavioral disorders,” wrote Ariana. “She never left home alone at night. She doesn’t travel in buses, she doesn’t have a cell phone on her and as far as I know doesn’t have money.”

The distraught mother added “she was never left alone more than five minutes. Amalia like her friend are classified as girls at risk. Both of them are adopted. (The friend’s) family and mine traveled for a conference resort for adoptive parents of special needs children in Ashkelon.”

“Anyone who can help somehow…I’m really really worried,” wrote Ariana.

The journalist told Arutz Sheva that the search crews are in need of more volunteers in the popular shopping area of Dizengoff Center in Tel Aviv where the girls may have gone, noting “it’s really life-threatening danger G-d forbid.”

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the two girls, or who is willing to help locate them, is asked to contact the Ashkelon police at 08-6771440, or the police 100 emergency line.
