One Wounded in Arab Attack on Home of Former Hevron Chief Rabbi
May 5, 2015A Jewish man was lightly wounded on Tuesday afternoon as Arab terrorists hurled rocks at the new home in Jerusalem of former chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba and Hevron, Rabbi Dov Lior.
The attack occurred in Jerusalem’s Beit Orot neighborhood, located east of the Old City and to the north of the Mount of Olives. The rabbi bought the property in 2012, and moved there several months ago after announcing last October he was retiring to Jerusalem after 37 years as chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba and Hevron.
A group of Rabbi Lior’s students came to visit him at the porch of his home on Tuesday, when Arab assailants passed by adjacent to the house and began hurling a hail of rocks at the students.
One of the rocks struck a student in his head, inflicting light wounds.
Rabbi Lior has been a key leader in the religious Zionist community. He issued a Halakhic (Jewish legal) ruling in 2008 forbidding renting a house to Arabs in Israel or employing Arab workers, citing the Arabs’ status of enmity and occupation of the land of Israel according to Jewish law.
The attack on Tuesday comes a day after a man in his 40s riding a motor scooter was wounded on Monday by Arab attackers who threw rocks at him on Jerusalem’s Menachem Begin Boulevard, between the Atarot Junction and Ben Zion interchange.
Magen David Adom paramedics who were called to the scene evacuated the victim to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.
Just hours earlier on Monday, an Arab terrorist was apprehended as he attempted to stab Jews at the Givat Hamivtar light rail station in north-eastern Jerusalem, near the French Hill neighborhood.
Light rail security personnel were on scene and spotted the terrorist as he attempted to attack, at which point they opened fire and captured him. The attempted attack was at a distance of just a few minutes by foot to the bus stop in the French Hill neighborhood where Shalom Yochai Sherki was murdered by an Arab terrorist last month.
The attacks follow on from last week, when a 16-year-old Arab attacker who had been throwing rocks at security forces near Jenin was shot by IDF forces and moderately wounded.
The attempted terrorist attack came hours after an Israeli was lightly injured at the Huwara checkpoint near Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria, when Arabs threw a firebomb at his car. He managed to jump out of the car in time, preventing serious injuries.
