‘Netanyahu returned the terrorist’s body, he must quit’
May 4, 2016Former Foreign Minister and Yisrael Beytenu head MK Avigdor Liberman on Wednesday morning criticized his former ally Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, demanding that he resign.
Liberman’s demand comes after the political echelon on Tuesday had the body of a terrorist returned to the Palestinian Authority (PA), mere hours after the terrorist launched a car ramming attack near Dolev in Samaria, wounding three IDF soldiers including one seriously.
“If all the other reasons for which Netanyahu needs to resign as prime minister have not yet ripened, the scandalous conduct in terms of the return of terrorists’ bodies alone obligates him to do so immediately,” wrote Liberman on his official Facebook page.
“His conduct not only humiliates the public but also seriously harms deterrence and encourages terror attacks.”
The return of the terrorist’s body breaks with the policy announced by Netanyahu before the Passover holiday, according to which Israel would stop handing over bodies of terrorists for burial by their families.
However, an official told Arutz Sheva that Netanyahu had authorized the Defense and Internal Security Ministers to return terrorist bodies so long as certain conditions – such as no massive funeral for the terrorist – were met by the other side.
Late last month the IDF returned the body of a terrorist who carried out an attack to his family, due to what was later described as an “error.” The IDF later launched an inquiry into the incident.
