Minister Calls for Unity, Restraint Among MKs

July 28, 2014

Communications Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) called on his fellow ministers and MKs to support Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Monday.

“I call on every MK and minister to show responsibility and restraint during these difficult hours,” Erdan said.

He urged MKs to “unify in support for the Prime Minister, who is conducting a difficult war and fighting [pressure from] the international community.”

“Now is the time for leadership and reserve,” Erdan continued, “and to convey a message of strength and determination against our enemies.”

Erdan’s comments follow at least two ministers’ critical remarks Monday on the way the war has been managed.

“We wasted time and our great army has not been able to finish its work, it’s a shame,” complained ex-agriculture minister Yair Shamir (Yisrael Beytenu), the son of the former premier Yitzhak Shamir.

Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) said Israel should have launched “a much quicker, harder, more determined operation to allow the Israeli army to win.”

“Sometimes it’s necessary to accept that you have to pay a political price when the safety of Israelis is at stake.”
