Lapid: Israel Owes Its Citizens an Apology

December 20, 2014

Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid has reached out to Israel’s youngest voting population Saturday night, holding a question-and-answer session with 200 members of Yesh Atid at Tel Aviv’s Tailor Made club in a pre-election appearance.

Lapid was joined by MKs Yaakov Perry, Mickey Levi, Ronen Hoffman, Aliza Lavie, Pnina Tamano-Shata, and Boaz Toporovsky.

“Israel owes you an apology,” Lapid stated in opening remarks, “because for 20 years it hasn’t been working for you.”

“You are the ones who are here today, you decide to take your destiny in your hands and lead the change,” he added.

“Yesh Atid came to the government and decided to change the political game,” he continued. “To us, politics is not just for politics, politics is not the goal, the goal is to change the lives of civilians and to create a better society.”

“Yesh Atid will not stop the actions the Prime Minister curtailed, when he decided to go to the polls,” Lapid declared. “[We act to] add more housing programs, [change] the social budget, [improve the] cost of living.” He added that, in his eyes, “any party other than the Prime Minister should receive credit.”

Lapid and other MKs have claimed on several occasions that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu “pulled the plug” on “successes” Lapid had in store, including a peace plan and crucial solutions to Israel’s housing and cost of living issues, and that Netanyahu had a specific agenda against him.

A litany of polls indicate that there is a distinct lack of a future for Yesh Atid, which will likely fall from 19 seats in the current Knesset to anywhere between eight and nine seats
