Justice Minister: Government will survive
August 2, 2016Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked opined on Tuesday that despite the internal cat-fights between Jewish Home and Likud this past week, the coalition will survive until the next term.
In a press conference, Shaked commented that “The coalition is expected to finish its time. It’s homogenous. Its members see eye-to-eye on most matters. I don’t see elections happening any time soon.”
Shaked also doesn’t expect any significant portfolio-swapping in the near future: “Despite the Prime Minister’s desire to bring in the Zionist Union, no major responsibilities will be taken away from the Jewish Home [party]…the Jewish Home will remain in the coalition.”
That includes her own Justice Ministry. “The Justice Ministry won’t be allowed to pass to any other party.”
In regards to the campaign to induct Maale Adumim into sovereign Israel, Shaked was certain that “It won’t happen through a private bill proposal. Rather, through the general consensus of the government. I’m glad that it’s on the…table.”
Shaked was asked about her political future – including rumors that she may defect to the Likud. “I’m flattered that Likud players want me in the party, but I remain with the Jewish Home, and continue to work as usual.”
The Justice Minister added that she doesn’t intend to squabble with Naftali Bennett for leadership of their party. She added, “Bennett is most fitting to be Prime Minister, after Netanyahu.”
Shaked added that she would be happy to serve another term in the Justice Ministry.
