Jewish Dems up in arms over controversial Cruz endorser

February 9, 2016

The National Jewish Democratic Council has expressed outrage after Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz proudly touted an endorsement from a controversial Christian evangelical leader.

Mike Bickle is notorious for his comments suggesting God sent Nazi leader Adolf Hitler to hunt Jews because of their refusal to accept Jesus as the messiah.

The founder and director of the International House of Prayer, Bickle is also apparently active in trying to convert Jews to Christianity.

He runs the Israel Mandate project whose mission, according to its website, is to “mobilize intercessors in the Church to pray for Israel, and to stand with and encourage Messianic believers in Israel.”

Senator Cruz announced Bickle’s endorsement of his candidacy last month, writing on his website, “With the support of Mike and many other people of faith, we will fight the good fight, finish the course, and keep the faith.”

Following a report Tuesday in Times of Israel on Bickle’s activities, the NJDC has demanded that Cruz clarify his position.

“It is profoundly troubling that Sen. Ted Cruz proudly trumpeted the endorsement of such a controversial figure who holds such offensive views,” the NJDC said in a statement.

“We call on Sen. Cruz to clarify his position and explain why he chose to highlight someone who is ‘notorious for having said that God sent Hitler to hunt Jews for not accepting Jesus as the messiah,'” it charged.
