Israel returns bodies of Damascus Gate terrorists
February 5, 2016The IDF on Friday returned to the Palestinian Authority (PA) the bodies of the three terrorists who carried out the attack at the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem this week, in which Border Police officer Hadar Cohen was murdered and a second Border Police officer was moderately wounded.
The bodies were then transferred to Kabatiya, the hometown of the three terrorists which remains under an IDF closure.
The funeral of the three terrorists – Ahmad Nagah Ismail Nasser, Ahmed Najah Abed Alalatif Abu-Alaroub and Mohammad Ahmad Mohammad Kamil – took place at the town on Friday evening, with IDF troops on hand to deal with any possible riots.
The IDF is investigating how the three were able to travel from northern Samaria all the way to the capital so heavily armed. The security apparatus apparently had no early information or warning about such a terror cell planning an attack.
However, one of the terrorists reportedly did write about his intentions to conduct an attack and “kill Jews” on Facebook last month.
Israel has several times returned the bodies of terrorists to the PA, even after a security cabinet decision in October not to do so.
Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon has argued that refusing to return the bodies of terrorists to their families is not a deterrent against terror.
